Acupuncture for support before, during and after IVF and pregnancy
Judi has completed an Integrated Acupuncture Seminar for Obstetrics and Fertility which studied safe treatment for infertility/IVF and throughout pregnancy.
Acupuncture is a safe, natural therapy. It can help to increase fertility and support women and men through IVF. In pregnancy acupuncture can help to bring natural relief from morning sickness, backache, anxiety, pelvic pain and insomnia, reducing the need for drugs. Stimulation of a point on the little toe can also help to turn breech presentations from 33 weeks onwards. As a prebirth treatment from week 36 it helps women prepare for labour and relieves anxiety. This treatment can help to shorten labour and reduce medical intervention, along with a hands-on guide to acupressure for pain relief during labour. Prior to a medical induction acupuncture can provide a more natural induction.
If couples begin a healthcare programme which includes acupuncture and nutrition for 3-4 months prior to conception it can have a positive impact on the quality of egg and sperm, thereby encouraging more positive outcomes. Even a six week course of acupuncture can help to prepare both partners for IVF treatment. During IVF, weekly treatment is recommended. It is then advised prior to egg collection and before and after embryo transfer. If conception is achieved it can be given weekly up to week 13.
